In 2010, I founded The School of the Examined Life, where I teach and facilitate classes and workshops examining the unconscious (shadow), relationships, life-stages, and emotions – all through the lenses of students’ personal experience. Through film-watching, lecture, inquiry exercises, relevant readings and group discussion, students begin the journey inward, inviting all parts of themselves to be seen and heard.
My work is particularly unique in that I use film as the catalyst for making the unconscious conscious, and through which students can better understand themselves and others. And, though this life changing passage is taken seriously, humor and laughter inevitably become a part of the process.
I work with small groups as well as large organizations. I also custom design workshops especially tailored for your group or organization.
At the School we believe in the power of exploring and inquiring — the transformative process of the questioning — not necessarily setting answers as a goal. What happens to us when, as Rilke says, we love the questions themselves:
Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.” Rainer Maria Rilke
